G3i has developed a technology that enables functionalizing the surface of a nanomaterial with an oppositely charged surface-function material, in a fashion that results in low viscosity, uniformly surface functionalized nanomaterial colloids. This process, called SF-Nano™, is low cost, enables high quality and is capable of producing large (multiple tons/day) quantities.
G3i technology is based upon expertise in fundamental surface-chemistry and brings a solution to a fundamental technical problem, namely, the capability to uniformly functionalize the surface of nanoparticles with functional moieties (molecules) while maintaining a stable colloidal suspension. While the knowledge and design of solution-reaction processes is public domain information, G3i has developed a unique and patented process for the surface functionalization of nanomaterials. This product architecture enables a process using building blocks to create multifunctional products by attaching sets of molecules on the surface of nanoparticles to deliver any combination of desired product features.
This technology is based upon the practice of green nanotechnology principles which include a system perspective towards product development and manufacturing. To this end, any nanomaterial modification and/or manufacturing process should be designed in a way that maximizes product performance while minimizing environmental, health and safety risks. Such a process eliminates waste, uses ambient temperature and pressure, and uses aqueous solvents to create products that limit or eliminate the use of harmful chemistries while improving their economy of use by “making every atom count”. This philosophy and practice of green nanotechnology by G3i offers an opportunity to head off adverse effects before they occur.
